James Meeks

James Meeks is the pastor of Salem Baptist Church in Chicago. He and Hybels struck up a friendship a couple of years ago and work together to make progress on racial division in our world. Some highlights from his talk:

  • Hybels told him to "preach black" before he started. James said, 'Do I have a choice?"
  • Everything in the kingdom is meant to grow.
  • What you don't know can stifle and choke the growth of your church.
  • If Rick Warren jumps off a building, there will be purpose-driven guts all over the sidewalk. That's deep.
  • It doesn't matter how small your town is--your church is supposed to grow.
  • The speed of the leader determines the speed of the team.
  • (Interesting...it's been a long time since I've heard someone quote John MacArthur or Jack Hyles in a message.)
  • When you've experienced victory in the past, you begin to expect God to do more great things.
  • It doesn't matter what you do or how many people pat you on the back, if God isn't pleased it doesn't matter.
