Book Review: The Multi-Site Church Revolution

I'm a real lover of whatever is practical. Books filled with theory and inspiration have their place--but I would much rather read a book written by someone who is in the trenches making ministry work.

I first saw this book at the Purpose Driven Church conference in May. There were several stacks of them laying on the resource table next to our Simply Strategic books. I didn't find out until later that it was hot off the presses, just released a couple of days prior to the conference.

As I flipped through the book that day, I was tempted to buy multiple copies right then. But then I heard Susan's voice in my head (she runs our bookstore and pleasantly encourages us to utilize her services) so I went back to my hotel room and sent her an email asking for 6 copies. She ordered them for me and they were waiting when I got back to my office.

Honestly...I couldn't put the book down. It was highly practical and filled with very recent illustrations. It included specific details from scores of churches that are getting it done. They talk about the history of the multi-site movement, what has been happening in recent years, and go through important considerations about leadership, budgets, location, branding, planning, implementation, structure and technology.

I gave the extra copies to our senior leadership team and we worked through the book together. It gave us context for some great conversation as we dream about the vision for the future of our ministry at Granger. I really think that the rich content that Geoff Surratt, Greg Ligon, and Warren Bird put in this book will have an overwhelmingly positive impact on our church for years to come.
