About Me

  • Although my official title is executive pastor at Granger Community Church--my role is all about finding high capacity people with great hearts and getting them the resources they need so together we can help people meet Jesus. I really believe I lead the greatest staff on the planet, and my joy is in helping them hit the ball out of the park. In my spare time, I get the privilege of writing books and teaching workshops to help leaders of other churches learn from our mistakes and successes.

    Diversity at Whiteboard

I'm spending the day working on my talk for the Whiteboard Sessions conference. There are several things true about this conference...

    • Since I first heard about it, I've been excited! Love the concept of 8 short sessions, each speaker focusing on one big idea.
    • Ever since I was asked to be in the line-up, I've felt like a dwarf among giants.
    • It must be the most diverse speaker line-up ever. On the other end of the spectrum from me, one of the other speakers was recently described as a pastor who "shuns cultural relevance."
    • It will definitely be the most diverse crowd I've ever spoken to. I've heard from some people who strongly disagree with my recent book who are planning to attend the conference.
    • I'm pretty excited to sit at the feet of the other 7 speakers. I know God will speak to me through each one of them.

The conference is two weeks from today, but it's not too late to sign up.

    Tim,

I will be there and look forward to hearing what God has placed on your heart. To quote Airplane - "No pressure but we are all depending on you"

I am looking forward to the event. Hope to meet you there.

    Tim:

I'm VERY excited for this conference as well. I'm excited to hear your one big idea.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday about the diversity of this group of speakers. Most conferences seem to intentionally gather a bunch of speakers who are very similar... I think Ben showed a lot of wisdom in putting together a group that is all over the spectrum.

See you in a couple weeks

    Tim -

As one who strongly AGREES with the premise of your book (though I confess that I haven't read it yet), I'm looking forward to hearing what you and the others have to say. In fact, your presence was one of the most compelling reasons for my attendance.

The diversity ought to be interesting, to say the least...

We're signed up and charged up. Can't wait to see what happens.

    Hey Tim,
Just wanted to let you know I met Mark Batterson
this past weekend and told him I came to his church
via your blog. Pretty cool huh?

    David

Isn't it great?! That is one thing that makes this world so wonderful... very colorful to me. Tim, I cannot wait to hear you speak!

    Tim,
I wanted to let you know I will be praying for you and all attending the conference.
I was introduced to Granger by hearing Mark Beeson speak at WFX in Indianapolis. I have read your book and I am still not sure how I feel about culture in service but agree or not your book should cause everyone to examine what we are doing and how we are doing it. I appreaciate your book and what you do at Granger. Keep us all thinking and close to God!
    Blessings.

I look forward to the day when a conference will have REAL diversity in its speakers and attendees.

So what if people disagree. We've really got to learn to agree to disagree better. There is no one way of doing church, or reaching people. I hope that this conference goes along way in bringing all viewpoints together. we are all on the same team!
