Wow, this was really helpful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, I'm sure it will help me be more effective with my time spent on twitter. I already use tweetdeck, but have done little with the new list function built into twitter.

: If you can get more twitter followers, then you will be in a very good position to use the twitter marketing to get more buyers. By having more followers, you will be able to have a multiplied effect of your marketing efforts. More and more people will be seeing your updates.

Ha! Wonder how you found me. (Feel free not to know the answer to that question.) I rarely follow anyone unless a friend recommends them or if they follow me first (that's not automatic, of course. Many I don't follow back. I only need so many "social media experts" in my twitter stream.) I use TwitCleaner (?) to clear out folks every so often. My favorite category in their sort is "These people ignore you." Snort! That's encouraging.

Tim, I was actively using Tweet Adder, too. However, Twitter considers this "aggressive following." This is contrary to their terms of service. The only auto-following they permit is auto-following those who follow you. Anything else, they consider spam.

The way I found out about this is that my name suddenly dropped out of Twitter search. A developer friend of mine inquired, because he had a contact at Twitter. They wrote to me and explained their philosophy. They only agreed to put me back in Twitter search on the condition that I stopped the practice of aggressive following.

Taking you out of Twitter search is step 1. If you continue, your account is subject to suspension.

Just thought you'd want to know.

I, too, follow many people because I'm listening through technology. I follow people that don't agree with me, non-Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, tech gurus, culture and arts pros, thinkers and leaders of all types. We can learn from all types of people.
